HS2 Update

19 April, 2012

So I met Justine Greening today in the latest of, what sometimes seems interminable & fruitless, meetings on HS2.

However today, some small but significant progress has been made. One of Camden’s key demands is now being met.

In a stunning victory for pressure & campaigning by Camden Labour the Government is now in the process of buying the National Temperance Hospital site.

They have also accepted the principles of ensuring the people whose homes will be bulldozed should be able to live locally and that they should be able to move straight in to new homes – not via a decant/recant situation.

We now have a clear expectation that this site will be used for replacement housing for some of the 500 or so families on the Regent’s Park Estate.

We remain opposed to HS2. There is still a very long list of very negative impacts that Government must act to mitigate.

But this early victory for Camden’s Labour administration on behalf of our residents is significant.
